Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are you accepting new patients?

Yes, we always welcome new patients to our practice! Please see the list of insurances that we accept under the "Office Info-Insurances" Menu Tab.

If your child is new to the practice and needs a well visit, please note that we need all prior records sent to our office before making your appointment. This gives our doctors adequate time to prepare prior to your appointment and that means less wait time. It also allows for us to give an appropriate amount of time for the appointment in case there are additional issues to discuss and make sure that the last well visit has been at least one year prior for insurance purposes. If the entire chart is unavailable in time, we ask that you please have your prior doctors office fax the vaccine records and last well summary to our office in the meantime. Thank you and welcome aboard!

Please note--which medication you give your child is based on subjective opinion and symptoms. Call to speak to our nurses to guide you in the right direction for any OTC (over the counter) medications.

  • What days are you open?

Our office is open Monday through Friday and Saturday  for sick and sometimes well visits. As our daily schedule is subject to change, please call to confirm office hours.

  • How do I make an appointment?

To make an appointment for a sick child you can call the office starting at 7:30am or you can book online for the location you wish (only Silver Spring on Saturdays).  If you are unsure if you need to come in or want to try a telehealth sick appt first, please log into our telehealth during the hours posted.  No appt needed.

For well/annual appts you can book online or call the office.  New patients, med checks, consults or any other reasons  please call our office.  We ask that you arrive at our office 10 - 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time. There is no grace period for being late.  We will do our best to fit you in but cannot guarantee. Please complete the check-in link texted to you prior to your appointment.   If you must cancel an appointment, please notify us at least 24 hrs in advance so we can offer that appointment to someone else.

Emergencies arise. We will advise you if there is going to be a delay in seeing you. If your schedule won't allow you to wait, we will be happy to reschedule your appointment. We do appreciate your patience and cooperation during our busy times and we will make every effort to keep your wait time to a minimum.

  • Do you accept my health insurance?

Please refer to our insurance page to review a list of accepted insurance providers.

  • How do we contact the after hours doctor?

When you need to speak to a provider after our phones turn off at 4:30pm, you can simply go to our website and click on the after-hours telehealth link above from 6:00p-8:30p.

Note the other after hours times to use that link if you need us! This connects you to our virtual after-hours waiting room for the on-call provider.   Please go to our telehealth section on our website for more details.  These are billed to insurance, however there is a surcharge to do after hour televisits or calls to the answering service.  Also note, there is a code 99051 that is added on to visits, both virtual or in office, that occur after 6pm.  This may or many not be covered by your insurance.

IN THE EVENT OF A LIFE THREATENING EMERGENCY, CALL 911.

  • What if I have an emergency outside of the after hrs telehealth times?

If you need someone between 8:30pm and 7:30am the next day you would call our answering service at 301-337-2988

The answering service will automatically connect you to a pediatric nurse triage service to help you out.  There is a fee associated with using this service of $40.  This is a group of qualified nurses there to answer your questions and help triage the call.  If it is an emergency, they will recommend an appropriate form of action.  The on-call physician is contacted after 8:30PM if the nurses cannot answer the patient’s questions or give them solutions to get them through the evening until our offices open.

  • May I request a specific Pediatrician for my visit?

Every effort is made to arrange your child's well care and follow up visits with the physician of your choice. When your child is ill, he or she may see any one of our physicians.  If your child is on chronic medications we ask that you schedule with the same provider you see for annual exams for consistency.

  • How often does my child need to be seen in the office?

Our routine health maintenance visit schedule follows the American Academy of Pediatrics vaccine guideline for children.

  • Why does my child need to receive vaccinations?

Immunizations are a series of shots given to children at different ages to help ward off serious, and potentially fatal, childhood diseases. Making sure your child receives immunizations when scheduled is the best way to help protect your child from potentially fatal diseases. According to The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), vaccinations have reduced the number of infections from vaccine-preventable diseases by more than 90%.

If you're apprehensive about vaccinations, please do not hesitate to contact our office.

  • What immunizations will my child receive?

To help protect your child from many serious infectious diseases, we follow the immunization schedule recommended by The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Please discuss your immunization questions and concerns with any of our pediatricians.

  • When will I receive lab or test results?

You will receive a call quickly with any lab results that require urgent attention. Other abnormal lab results will be addressed promptly by the provider that ordered the labs or tests. Normal values are reviewed and addressed by the physician that ordered them.

  • How do I obtain a prescription refill?

Please submit all refill requests through the child's patient portal.   All chronic medications must have a Medication Check appt every 3 months.  . Allow one business day for all routine prescription refills. For prescriptions that require prior authorization from your insurance company, please plan ahead to allow at least three to five days for refill approval.

  • Can I meet my pediatrician before my baby is born?

Yes, in fact we strongly encourage parents-to-be to join one of our Zoom Meet and Greets and watch the videos on our Expecting Parent page. This is a great way to get acquainted with our office and our doctors. Visit our expectant parent's page for more information.

  • I just gave birth. When should I schedule my baby's first doctor visit?

We recommend that your newborn be seen in our office 1-2 days after discharge from the hospital. Our staff understands the importance of this first visit and will make every effort to schedule this visit promptly.
